Kids privacy notice
This page explains, in simple words, what the Academy remembers when you learn here — and what it does not collect.
For kids
You do not need an account or an email address.
- Your browser keeps a random cookie so we know it is the same visit (not your name).
- We remember which lessons and quizzes you finished, and any badges you earned.
- If a grown-up types a first name for a certificate, that name goes on the certificate.
- The Listen button uses your own device’s voice. The lesson words stay on your device — we do not send them to us or to OpenAI.
- There are no ads and no third-party trackers on Academy pages.
A grown-up can use Delete my progress on the Academy home page or the parents page to wipe learning progress for this browser. Certificates that were already made stay so people can still check them.
For grown-ups
The Academy is anonymous by design. There are no learner accounts and no email, phone, school, age or address fields.
What we store
- Anonymous session cookie (
as_academy_session): a random id, HttpOnly, SameSite=Strict, Secure in production, kept for up to 90 days of inactivity window / cookie lifetime. - Course progress for that session (pages visited, started/completed status).
- Quiz drafts and quiz attempts linked to that session.
- Badges earned for that session.
- Certificates: only the display name typed at issue time (kids: first name), plus certificate id and track — kept so certificates remain verifiable even after progress is deleted.
What we do not store or use
- No accounts, no email, no advertising profiles.
- No third-party analytics or trackers on Academy HTML pages.
- Kids read-aloud uses the device Web Speech API; text is not sent to our TTS/OpenAI route for the kids Listen button.
How long & how to delete
The session cookie lasts up to 90 days. Progress, drafts, attempts and badges for the current session can be removed with Delete my progress (CSRF-protected). That clears the cookie and session rows; issued certificates are not deleted so verification links keep working.
